Libra & Autumn Equinox

Autumn Equinox - Harvest, Let Go, Return to Center

It's a bittersweet moment when summer ends and autumn begins. It's goodbye to the open, carefree feeling of summer, and hello to the season of purposeful activity and paring back to the essentials. We're in the transitional time of the harvest, when the sun still warms us and there's much a-fruit, even as the temperature cools and the light shifts.

We are raking in our harvest as the plants (metaphorical & actual) let go of their fruits, and we are also considering what we ourselves would like to let go of. Like the plants around us, our energy will soon start to return from its summertime peripheries, and condense into our center. We are immersed in these energies at this time, and we revisit the themes below at the full moon in Libra, during the Aries solar month.

What distractions can you let go of?

What returns you to a sense of BE-ing?

Sun in Libra: roughly 9/22 - 10/22

Balance

When the sun transits through the sign of the scales, it's time to bring our lives back into balance. Balance is at best a moving target, and often merely an ideal. We don't attain balance, and then check "get in balance" off our list. It's an ongoing process of maintenance.

How is your balance of -

<> work and life,

<> time-alone and time-with-others,

<> being-active and being-receptive?

Prioritizing

Balance is an entirely different animal for each individual. Before we can get in balance, we first need to answer questions of priority:

What matters most to you?

What is beautiful to you?

Are you giving those things enough time and attention?

Are you giving too much time and attention to things you don't care as much about?

Relationships

Relationships involve the balance of I and thou, and so those are also up for assessment when the sun transits through the sign of the scales. This is also a good time to look at your relationship with yourself, since that is the seed from which all your other relationships sprout.

What is one small adjustment you can make to improve your relationship with yourself?

Which of your relationships feel most balanced and balancing?

Beauty

The Libra month is often a beautiful month - autumn colors, gorgeous sunsets, abundant harvests, and that mysterious golden light of early autumn. This aligns with the energy of Libra, which has the soul of an artist.

LIBRA PRACTICE:

Notice at least 5 beautiful things each day this month. Feel free to write them in the comments section below :)

Justice

Libra also relates to the scales of Justice, which is the expression of balance on a societal level. This is a time of year when some folks turn their attention to bringing more balance into society through activism, legal, or political involvement. If there's any way you'd like to support more balance in humanity, now is a good time to start taking those steps.

Herbs for the Libra month:

SCHISANDRA BERRIES pull your energy inwards if you're overextending yourself for others, or thinking too much about the various sides of an issue. Schisandra also helps to bring forth one's inner beauty, and is a great support to the adrenals and the liver. If you've been feeling stressed, impatient and run-down, simmer the dry herb (1 Tbsp herb per cup water) for 20 minutes to make tea. To access the energetic qualities of the herb, take the tincture in drop doses (2 drops 2x/day).

ROSE PETALS. Nothing so helps us imbibe beauty (and loving protection, should you need it) as this incredible, luscious flower. Take it in with all your senses. Take a bath with rose petals. If you don't have a bath, put a rose petal compress on your kidneys, or sprinkle fresh rose petals on your pillow and bed before turning in for the night, or drink rose petal tea with honey.
